The New Haven City Park is funded by a City of New Haven property tax levy (27.10 cents per $100 assessed valuation in 2008) and is overseen by a nine-member board: Mike Faris, president; Mary VonBehren, Larry Hanks, Tim Otten, Bill Stallmann, Jim Stiles, Eric Overschmidt, Jason Addison and Jan Monzyk. Melissa Venardos is the Board of Aldermen liasion.

Kirby Menke, the Park Manager, oversees operation of the park system, which includes the main City Park and adjacent Bail Park, Thurman Park, and the John Colter Riverfront Park areas downtown.

The Park Board also operates the John Colter Museum and New Haven Visitor's Center, located downtown at the corner of Miller and Main streets.

The Municipal Swimming Pool operates from late May until early August. The main city park includes two baseball and softball diamonds: Lions Field and Bock Field.

Bail Park is available to rent for $125.00 per day. The pavilions in the other areas of the park are available for rent at $75.00 per day guaranteed or free on a first-come, first-served basis. The ball fields are also available at $10.00 per day except for days reserved for use by New Haven High School and the New Haven Little League.
